Frequently asked questions

Q: Do I need to be able to swim to paddle with you?

A: No, we do not require swimming ability. We ask that you are not afraid of water.

Q: Will I get wet?

A: There is a likelihood of getting damp, a little or a lot wet while undertaking paddlesport. We recommend a change of clothes to all sessions is carried to avoid discomfort.

Q: Is paddleboarding/canoeing/kayaking tough?

A: Like anything in life, it is tough to master in the first attempt but it is a lot of fun and we will always have an instructor or coach to help you with the fundamentals.

Q: What should I wear while paddling?

A: We recommend quick dry gym leggings, top and some old trainers. A windproof jacket and a warm hat is also a good idea on most days. If the weather is cooler we will organise wetsuits for the session.

Q: What can I expect on the day?

We will clearly define the meeting time and place on the day. The meeting time will be 30-45min before we get on the water to allow us to prepare the equipment, do a short safety briefing and warm up. Most beginner friendly sessions will involve 1-1.5h on the water learning the basics of water safety, controlling the kayak/board and learning about the sport. After the session we will clean the equipment together, do some light stretching and have a short discussion about the session, what's next over a warm drink/snack.

Q: How are the sessions structured?

We believe that everyone has very different ways of learning and enjoying the outdoors. We will not shout instructions to everyone constantly but give you the space to explore paddling in your own way. We will give you a safety briefing that will explain the basics of staying safe on the water. In our experience, paddlesport is highly intuitive and most people know how to avoid dangerous situations when they paddle with us.

Q: I have additional physical and neurological needs, can I paddle with you?

We currently running our own small sessions with basic equipment so we can cater to folks with injuries and mobility issues only. If you are neurodivergent and the website/event links do not provide information you need please do let us know. Everyone is slightly different so we have provided enough information based on what we like to know while not overloading everyone with lots to remember.
